Mark IV News

We're not promising these news items are updated regularly - Sorry!

June 14th 2015

You may have seen the news about the flooding in Tbilisi, especially about animals escaping from the zoo. What the news didn't cover was the fact that the building of the School of Tomorrow was also hit by the same flood.

The intensity of the flood was increased enormously by the fact that a land slide dammed the Vere River for a while, causing water to accumulate. When the dam failed, an intense rush of water headed down the valley. The School of Tomorrow sits right next to the Vere River.

It's not possible yet to get close to the school building, but the administrator, Ryan Arner, has looked at it from as close as he can get, and he concludes that the building may be a total loss.

At this stage it's too soon to have figured out what the next steps will be, but please join us in prayer that God will use this disaster for His glory, and that the school will emerge stronger. please also consider donating, as we anticipate that funds will be needed in the process of getting the school back on its feet.

Thank you for supporting this ministry.

Earl and Jan Treat returned this week to the Republic of Georgia, where they arrived safely in Tbilisi. They will be preparing for the start of the new school year.

Work on the new wing proceeded extremely fast over the Summer of 2007, with the result that the new wing of the Mziuri facility was completed in time for the opening day of the 07-08 school year. At 6,000 square feet, the new wing provides five classrooms and administration offices. (The new wing can be seen to the left of the red roof in the picture above.)

Importanty, the new wing permits the entire School of Tomorrow to be accommodated at the Mziuri site, which means that the elementary grades are no longer housed in the rented building on Petriashvili Street, which became unavailable to the School this Summer.  Having the entire School at one site makes administration much easier.

The new wing, like the first wing, has been designed to accept a second story in the future, as the School expands its enrollment, and to include workshops, teacher accommodation, etc. Furthemore, the existing octagonal building (a hippodrome in the past) is now incorporated into the school facility, and serves as a gymnasium, until such time as a purpose-built gymnasium can be constructed on the site (you can see the pad for it on the left of the picture below).

Earl and Jan with the vanEarl has purchased a used van for the work of Mark IV Harvest in Georgia. As a means for getting around town, and for bringing building supplies to the Mziuri site, Earl and Jan are wondering how they ever managed without it. It is parked each night in a guarded parking area.
